PUJO or Hydroneprosis

The simplest solution to a blocked kidney or hydronephrosis is to place a ureteric stent. This is only temporary as the stents can usually only remain in place for 6-12 months. They then need changing. Occasionally, this can be the long term solution with regular stent changes. For further details of the procedure please see the BAUS information sheet

The definitive solution to a PUJ obstruction is a pyeloplasty. These are now performed by a minimally invasive technique utilising the Da Vinci robot.  For further details of the procedure please see the BAUS information sheet
