Mr James Douglas
Mr James Douglas has been a Consultant Urologist at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust since 2016. His primary interest is in urological oncology including complex pelvic cancer surgery, RPLND and open nephrectomy. He also enjoys treating patients with general urological conditions including benign prostate problems, erectile dysfunction, lower urinary tract symptoms and UTI. He is proficient in both open and laparoscopic surgery, as well as core endourology.
Mr Douglas graduated from the University of London in 2003 and undertook his specialist training in Wessex Deanery and the University of Southampton where he achieved his MD. As part of his training, he undertook a specialist fellowship in urological oncology at the Vancouver Prostate Centre and the University of British Columbia. The high volume of patients he saw and treated during this gained him significant experience in this field.
Above clinical work, Mr Douglas has a considerable research portfolio. He has studied molecular pathways in bladder cancers and was involved in clinical and basic science trials leading to multiple publications. He is currently working on the POTOMAC study evaluating a new treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
Mr Douglas was awarded the Geoffrey Chisholm Medal at the Institute of Urology at the UCLH Hospital for his MSc in Urology.
